Shogi, also known as Japanese chess or the Game of Generals, is a two-player strategy board game that is the Japanese variant of chess. It is the most popular chess variant in Japan.

The aim of the game is to conquer the opposing king. The two players do not distinguish their pieces by color, but rather by the direction of the pointed side. It shows who the pieces currently belong to.
